Glamour is my way of life. I was 12 years old when I first realized the power of makeup. My always-glamorous mother decided that a makeover at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City was the ultimate rite of passage. With flashes of pink and purple eyeshadow and a generous swipe of fuchsia lipstick I was transformed—and I was undeniably fabulous. (To be fair, it was the ’80s.) From that moment, I knew what I wanted to do with my life: make people feel amazing for a living. While there were some twists and turns along the way (like the fact that I willingly signed up for pre-med at one point in college), I ended up doing just that. In the beginning, I simply strapped on my platform heels and started hustling.

I gave birth to my first “baby,” Mally Beauty, live on QVC on March 5, 2005. The collection, inspired by the tips and tricks I used on the biggest names in Hollywood, sold out in a record-breaking 36 minutes. Later came my three beautiful daughters. A lot has changed since then (especially my hair!), but my values–love, respect, and connection–have remained the same. I listen to people (my Mally Loves have taught me a thing or two) and I see beauty in everyone because it’s always, always there.

I also know that makeup can be a superpower. On days you’re feeling down, it can get you to where you need to be. Makeup can turn a regular day into an unforgettable one. I learned that years ago sitting at the Saks counter with my mom. She ultimately lost her battle with breast cancer, but not before she taught me that more is more and life is short. Wear the lipstick. Eat the pizza. Do you—and look incredible while you do it.
